1/- LAFERTE, assemblage de whiskies de 3 distilleries françaises (provenant de 2 régions) par la societé ALLIANSPIRITS, Blended Malt, 41 % (FRANCE), 50 € :
Délicatement floral & fruité, bien structuré, boisé subtil et épices douces, il est jeune mais bien assemblé, et constitue pour moi l’un des 2 ou 3 meilleurs blended malts français dégustés à ce jour. Les 3 fondateurs de cette jeune société d'assemblage de négoce savent ce qu’ils font (ils viennent de l’univers du Cognac) et ont su choisir le designer idéal pour leur bouteille & étiquette (l’agence Stranger & Stranger, dont vous avez du entendre parler notamment pour leur collaboration avec COMPASS BOX).
2/-COMPASS BOX « Orchard House », Blended Malt, 46 % (ECOSSE/Royaume-Uni), 56 €
Fruité crémeux (agrumes, abricot, pêche, pommes), bien que jeune, ce whisky est bien structuré (grâce notamment à ses composants, entre autres, des fûts de Clynelish & de Linkwood). Une réussite signée par le talentueux assembleur James Saxon.
3/ -CAMPBELTOWN LOCH, des propriétaires de la distillerie SPRINGBANK (J. & A. Mitchell), Blended Malt, tourbé, 46 % (ECOSSE), 48-53 € : Très belle alternative aux SPRINGBANK 10 ans parfois difficiles à trouver, avec un bel équilibre entre fruits mûrs, fine tourbe et joli boisé réglissé, cuir/vieux livres...
4 & 5/ -EDDU « Dorn Ha Dorn », Whisky de blé noir, affinage Pineau des Charentes, 43 % (Bretagne/FRANCE), 55 €, ou -EDDU « Carnet de Voyages/Vallée du Rhône Nord », 46 %, 69,90 € : Gouleyant fruité, très sur la pomme & le miel, pour le premier (Pineau des Charentes finish), élégance des fruits mûrs noirs et encore plus de finesse pour le 2ème, plus âgé (8 ans au lieu de 3) affiné dans un fût de Côte-Rôtie, comme un aboutissement..
6 & 7/-ARTESIA « Whisky tourbé », TOS distillerie, 46 % (Hauts-de-France, FRANCE), 75 € ou
-ARTESIA « Double Maturation/Bourbon-Moscatel », 46 %, 69,90 € :
De jolis esters (= fruité/floral expressif) et toujours cette délicieuse signature « boulangère » (crème pâtissière/croissants au beurre), flattée en fait par ces fûts de whisky tourbé écossais si bien intégrés. Le second whisky, lui, s’avance davantage dans un registre pâtissier & boisé, un peu plus épicé…
8 & 9/ -ARDNAMURCHAN AD/Paul Launois Release 2024, non tourbé, 57,3 % (Highlands, ECOSSE), 89 € ou
-ARDNAMURCHAN « AD/ » (ADCB 10.22:04), 2022, tourbé, 46,8 %, 53-55 € : Je sais que le premier whisky cité sera peut être difficile à trouver, mais si vous pouvez l’avoir, n’hésitez pas, c’est l’un de mes whiskies favoris de l’année 2024, une splendide combinaison entre fûts de Bourbon & de Champagne marqués par le Chardonnay, un régal ! Le second (« AD/ ») est désormais un classique (tourbé) de la distillerie, complexe & fin.
10 & 11/ -ARMORIK 15 ans (tourbé), distillerie Warenghem, édition 2023 (de préférence) ou 2024 (bien également), 46 % (Bretagne, FRANCE), 95 € ou
-ARMORIK 10 ans d’âge (peu tourbé) édition limitée 2023 ou édition limitée 2024, 46 %, 67-70 € : Un sommet (primé par votre serviteur) pour cette distillerie bretonne pionnière du whisky français, même si son style est sans doute le plus écossais des single-malts français, avec tout de même une touche de chez nous, peut-être dans ce boisé particulier & noble, et ce côté végétal…Un must, ce 15 ans, qui rappelle un vieux Islay du Nord-Est de l’île (B...), le 10 ans étant très bien aussi, plus consensuel, sur les fruits confits, quasiment un Speyside pour le coup…
12 & 13/ -BENROMACH « Contrasts/PEATSMOKE » (my bouteille est de 2022), 46 % (Speyside, ECOSSE), 67-75 € ou par exemple (parmi cette série millésimée)
-BENROMACH édition « Vintage 2014 Cask Strength » (9 ans, mise en bouteille en 2023), 59,7 %, 90 € :
Une alternative plus sèche à l’ARTESIA tourbé, mais tout aussi délicieuse, la tourbe est juste un peu plus cendrée, quant aux éditions millésimées & brut de fût comme ce 2014, elles constituent un vrai pendant aux LONGROW d’une certaine distillerie culte de Campbeltown…Pour amateurs de feux de cheminée et de viande au bacon qui grille lentement sur le feu…mais aussi pour ceux qui adorent le chocolat noir !
14/ -CRAIGELLACHIE 10 ans (de millésime 2014, mis en bouteille en 2025 par SIGNATORY VINTAGE, dans sa gamme « 100 Proof », 57,1 % (Speyside, ECOSSE), 63,90 € : Gourmand, malté et chocolaté, avec des fruits secs aussi... le tout enveloppé dans du caramel noir, voire on a là un pudding de Noël entier. J’apprécie le fait que l’influence deux types de fûts de Sherry (Oloroso & PX) soient perceptibles, tout en conservant quelque peu le caractère de la distillerie, avec son côté parfois un peu poussiéreux & végétal (feuilles de tabac à cigare).

1/-LAFERTE, a Blended Malt made of 3 different distilleries from 2 regions of France (ALLIANSPIRITS), 2024, 41 % (FRANCE), 50 € :
Delicately floral & fruity, well structured, subtly oaky and sweet spices, it is young but well blended, and constitutes for me one of the 2 or 3 best blended French malts tasted to date…The 3 founders of this young blending company know what they are doing, as they come from the Cognac territory, and they also know who makes the best packaging (it is designed by Stranger & Stranger, you might have heard of, through their collaboration with COMPASS BOX).
2/-COMPASS BOX « Orchard House », Blended Malt, 46 % (SCOTLAND/UK), 56 € :
Creamy fruity (citrus fruit, apricot, peach, apples) young and well structured (hence part of its content, some nice Clynelish & Linkwood casks). A successful creation from talented blender James Saxon.
3/-CAMPBELTOWN LOCH, by SPRINGBANK Distillers owners (J. & A. Mitchell), Blended Malt (SCOTLAND/UK), peated 46 %, 48-53 € :
Very nice alternative to SPRINGBANK 10 years (which is sometimes difficult to find), with a beautiful balance between ripe fruits, fine peat and nice woody liquorice, leather/ old books.
4 & 5/-EDDU « Dorn Ha Dorn », Buckwheat Whisky, finished in Pineau des Charentes (sweet wine) casks, 43 % (55 €) or EDDU « Carnet de Voyages/Vallée du Rhône Nord », 46 % (Brittany, FRANCE) : 69,90 € :
Gouleyant fruitiness, pretty much all on apples & honey, for the first one (Pineau des Charentes finish), elegance of ripe black fruits and even more finesse for the 2nd (which is an 8 yo instead of 3 yo for the first one), aged in a cask of Côte-Rôtie (red wine), a culmination..
6 & 7/-ARTESIA « Whisky tourbé » (peated whisky), TOS distillerie, 46 % (Hauts-de-France/North region, FRANCE) : 75 € or ARTESIA « Double Maturation/Bourbon-Moscatel », 46 % (same) 69,90 € :
Nice esters (fruity/floral, expressive) and always this delicious «bakerish» signature (pastry cream/ butter croissants), flattered by these barrels of Scottish peated whisky so well integrated. The second whisky, on the other hand, is more on the pastry (with red fruit) & woody side, as well as a little more spicy...
8 & 9/-ARDNAMURCHAN « AD/Paul Launois Release 2024 », unpeated, 57,3 % (Highlands, SCOTLAND/UK), 89 € : or -ARDNAMURCHAN « AD/ » (ADCB 10.22:04), 2022, peated, 46,8 % (same), 53-55 € :
I know that the first whisky quoted may be difficult to find, but if you can get it, do not hesitate, it is one of my favorite whiskies of the year 2024, a splendid combination between Bourbon & Champagne barrels marked by the Chardonnay, a treat! The second one, easier to find («AD/ ») is now a classic (peat) core expression, complex & fine.
10 & 11/-ARMORIK 15 ans (peated), Warenghem distillery, limited edition 2023 (by preference) or 2024 (nice too, though), 46 % (Brittany, FRANCE), 95 € or the limited releases 2023 or 2024 (lightly peated), 46 % (Brittany, FRANCE), 67-70 € :
A summit (awarded by your servant) for this Breton distillery pioneer of French whisky, even if its style is undoubtedly the most Scottish single-malts French whisky, with a local touch though, perhaps in these particular green & noble wood notes... A must have this 15 year old, which reminds an old Islayer of the North-East coast of the island, the 10 years old expression being very well also, but more consensual, more on the candied fruits, almost a Speysider...
12 & 13/-BENROMACH 3 « Contrasts/PEATSMOKE » (my bottle is from 2022), 46 % (67-75 €) or the « Vintage Cask Strength » series, (Speyside/SCOTLAND/UK), 90 € :
-BENROMACH « Vintage 2014 Cask Strength » edition (9 yo, bottled in 2023), 59,7 %, 90 € :
A drier alternative to the peated ARTESIA aforementioned, but equally delicious, the peat is just a little more ashy, as for vintage editions & cask strength (hence «Vintage» 2014 bottled in 2023 at 59.7%), they are a real counterpart to the LONGROW of a certain cult distillery in Campbeltown... For lovers of fireplace fires and meat with bacon that roasts slowly on the fire... but also for those who love dark chocolate!
14/-CRAIGELLACHIE 10 yo (distilled/vintage 2014), bottled in 2025 by SIGNATORY VINTAGE, in its « 100 Proof » range, (Speyside/SCOTLAND/UK), 57,1 %, 63,90 € :
Gourmet, malty & chocolaty, with dried fruit as well...wrapped in dark caramel, if not a whole chocolate & dried fruit Christmas pudding. I do appreciate that both Oloroso & PX Sherry casks notes come through & some distillery character, a bit maybe « dusty tobacco-cigar-ish ».
